Melvin Edmondson, Vocal

Melvin Edmondson was born in Springfield, Ohio, USA. After studies at the Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, he started his career in New York in the 70’s as  backing singer with Harry Belafonte and as an actor on Broadway alongside Rock Hudson. He appeared at productions of the Alvin Ailey Dance Company and on several American TV specials, followed by engagements with Quincy Jones, The Village People and Diana Ross.

Later Melvin Edmondson decided to move to Germany where he appeared at  famous stage productions like “Buddy Holly Story”/”Ain’t misbehavin”/”Little Shop of Horrors” (Hamburg), “Jesus Christ Superstar” (Bad Hersfeld/St.Gallen, Switzerland), “The Taming of the Shrew” (Munich), “Christmas Show” (Dortmund) and many others.

“Melvin Edmondson’s Tribute to the Unforgettable Nat King Cole” was created in 2004 by producer Stefan Trhal and is being performed all over Europe. In 2005 there are concerts in German capital cities like Hamburg, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf, and for 2006 further performances in Germany, England and Turkey are scheduled. Melvin Edmondson’s warm baritone voice brings back the great hits of the unforgettable Nat “King” Cole in their original orchestrations to today’s public.

 

Dolores Revels, Vocal special guest

Grown up and educated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, Dolores Revels started her career in New York in the off-Broadway production “Wake Up Man & Live”. During her artistic life she performed in the USA and Europe und finally moved to Hamburg where she was playing on TV and  the “Buddy Holly Story” musical. She works as a jazz, blues and gospel singer and is appearing in the production “Melvin Edmondson’s Tribute to the Unforgettable Nat King Cole” as  special guest singing great songs from the 60’s, also acting as duet partner together with Melvin Edmondson.

  

Björn Vüllgraf, Musical Director

Björn Vüllgraf, born in Brunswick, Germany, developed strong musical interest for the genre of Big Band Jazz even before he started to  study music at the University of Music and Drama, Hanover. Before graduating from this famous German University, he arranged and composed on behalf of  several ensembles and orchestras and worked successfully as a professional pianist and keyboarder. As arranger, bandleader and muscial director Björn Vüllgraf is responsible for the concert production “Melvin Edmondson’s Tribute to the Unforgettable Nat King Cole” for which he has reconstructed the arrangements from the original recordings. 26 string players plus a 17 piece Big Band, created by Björn Vüllgraf from best classical and jazz musicians, make up the Björn Vüllgraf Orchestra, which is enthusiastic in supporting Melvin Edmondson at his unique show.
